There are a cornucopia of events in the world that I would imagine make you feel like you just won the Super Bowl.
They would make you feel like you are the king of the world. (Can we even say that without thinking about Titanic? I think not.)
Maybe, winning an Oscar? An Academy Award? That, I would imagine will jet pack you to a surreal heavenly status.
A Grammy? Um , yes please!
Winning an actual Super Bowl? Can’t imagine how these guys feel. Just crazy crazy overflowing awesomeness sauce.
Here in Houston, we were privileged to know what it felt like for our local MLB team to win the World Series! Imagine what the players felt like!
Many of us might not ever win a Grammy or maybe a World Cup Soccer Championship, but there are events in our lives I would argue gives us the same awe-inspiring, over-the-moon ecstatic, top of the world emotions.
A graduation day. The moments we say “I Do” to the love of our life. Hearing the first cries of a first born. The long awaited promotion. Making Partner at a firm.
Finally taking the family to Disney World. (I promise Kids , one day soon)
When your dreams come true, or what ever you think success in your life is, insert here.
There is however, one thing that surpasses all of these phenomenons that we could accomplish in our lives.
This one thing goes beyond everything we have ever known. Beyond anything that the human race has ever known existed.
This one thing , one day, every creature, every life form that has ever existed since the beginning of time and everyone who is yet to be born, will bow down and worship this one being.
The SON of God. THE SON of THE true living, eternal, indestructible, indescribable God, who at a pivot point in human history sent his Son to save the people of earth from their sins.
Because you see, this Son, is Holy and Perfect. Glory so brilliant, more radiant that a trillion suns could not even be looked upon with sinful eyes, and anything that falls even remotely a fraction short of this Glory is sinful.
We are sinful.
We fall short of this Glory so majestic and pure.
This Glory has a name. It is the Son’s name.
Jesus has something else that is the essence of His Glory.
“Because of the GREAT LOVE with which he loved us…” Eph. 2:4
In this wonderful horrific day in human history, Jesus, out of Love for us to see His Glory, died on a cross to take away the sin that had separated us from His Glory, namely, Himself. He saved us from a life of malice, envy, hatred and emptiness.
We didn’t do anything to earn it or deserve it.
On the contrary, we did everything to abhor it, decline it, pervert it.
But “God shows his LOVE for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8
Knowing this Jesus is greater then anything we could ever accomplish in life. Greater and better then ever winning a Super Bowl.
“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of KNOWING CHRIST JESUS my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ!” – Philippians 3:7-8
